Ipswich is the East-Anglian town located on the estuary of the River Orwell. Situated in the heart of Suffolk this sleepy rural town is only a stones throw from greater London.
Historically, Ipswich used the natural resources it was blessed with to generate an income for its citizens. Based on the estuary of a major river, it became a fruitful port and provided a host of waterside employment. However, recently is has made severe adaptations in attempt to second-guess the tide of commerce. The harbour has been re-developed into a haul of commercial and residential properties to stimulate the town’s economy, coming at the cost of the maritime industry that preceded it.
Like any traditionally English town, Ipswich is full of a host of activities for travellers to the area. Museums and fine architecture litter the waterfront for tourists after a grasp of the history of the town.
In terms of nightlife, Ipswich has a small collection of pubs and nightclubs ready to entertain the masses on the weekend. Clubbers tend to head towards either Liquid or Fire and Ice until the early hours of the morning.
Ipswich is represented in a sporting context by the town’s football team – Ipswich Town FC. Although never a hugely successful club, the tractor boys have enjoyed a startling relationship with some of the most important managers in English history. World cup winning coach Sir Alf Ramsey started his managerial journey, as did the late Sir Bobby Robson.
